2023 National Games: Maharashtra first contingent to cross 100-medal mark, including 41 gold medals

Karnataka dominated the first day of the swimming events, bagging five gold medals and breaking five Games records.

2023 National Games: Maharashtra first contingent to cross 100-medal mark, including 41 gold medals

V.K Elakkiyadasan of Tamil Nadu and S.S Sneha of Karnataka were crowned the fastest athletes of the 2023 National Games as they clinched the men’s and women’s 100m gold medals in athletics on Sunday.

Maharashtra also became the first contingent to cross the the 100 medals mark, having already won 41 gold medals.

Elakkiyadasan finished with a timing of 10.36 sec ahead of Pranav Gurav of Maharashtra, who finished in 10.41 sec, and Services’ Saurabh Rajesh, who won bronze with a timing of 10.45 sec.

In the women’s category, S.S Sneha of Karnataka crossed the finish line with a timing of 11.45 sec ahead of the experienced Srabani Nanda of Odisha and R. Giridharani of Tamil Nadu, won bronze with a timing of 11.58 sec.

Five Games records were broken on the opening day of the swimming competition with Karnataka’s Srihari Natraj winning two gold medals.

Olympian Natraj was the first to cross the Games mark on Sunday with a timing of 1:49.09s in 200m freestyle, pushing Sajan Prakash of Kerala (1:51.10) to second spot while Aneesh Gowda of Karnataka finished third with a time of 1: 52.18 sec.
