Over 840,000 Afghans who applied for a resettlement program for US war allies are still waiting, according to a report by the State Department's inspector general. The program, which began in 2009, aims to help Afghans who worked with Americans during the conflict. However, it has been criticized for its slow processing, leaving applicants in dangerous situations. Since the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, the number of applicants has surged, with nearly 155,000 by December 2022.
