Terry Gou, the billionaire founder of Foxconn, has announced that he will run as an independent candidate in Taiwan's 2024 presidential elections. Gou, who previously failed to secure the nomination from the Kuomintang party, has been holding campaign-like rallies and criticizing the ruling Democratic Progressive Party's policies. He has pledged to bring peace to the Taiwan Strait and avoid conflict with China. Gou must gather 300,000 voter signatures by November 2 to qualify as a candidate. The current favorite to win the election is Vice President William Lai of the Democratic Progressive Party.
