The US Census Bureau released estimates showing that immigration has driven the highest population growth in two decades. The United States added 1.6 million people, with over two-thirds of them coming from international migration, bringing the total population to 334.9 million. This marks the second consecutive year that immigration has fueled population gains. A decline in deaths during the Covid-19 pandemic also contributed to the growth rate. Without immigration, the US population is projected to decline by the late 2030s.
