"Interference In Our Affairs": India Wants Reduction In Canada Diplomats

India has asked Canada to downsize its diplomatic presence in India citing "interference of Canadian diplomats in Indian affairs". This comes on the back of India suspending Visa services in Canada over "security concerns", in a dramatic escalation in a diplomatic row between the two countries. 

"The Canadian diplomatic presence in India is larger than what India has and accordingly needs to be downsized," said foreign ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi.

"There should be parity, their numbers are much higher," Mr Bagchi said.

On the decision to suspend Visa services in Canada, the spokesperson said mission personnel were unable to carry out Visa functions because of the security environment that they were facing.
