UN special rapporteur condemns lack of accountability for crimes in Afghanistan
The United Nations Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, condemned the lack of accountability for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and human rights violations. The conference on 'Accountability for Crimes Committed in Afghanistan' in New York stressed the importance of accountability for Afghanistan's violations of human rights and international humanitarian law. The International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) called on member states, particularly those involved in the conflict, to open cases for their own citizens.
