In December 2023, the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)-based inflation surged to a nine-month peak of 0.73%, primarily attributed to a significant increase in food prices. From April to October, the WPI inflation had consistently been in the negative zone, turning positive in November at 0.26%. In comparison, in December 2022, it stood at 5.02%. The last high level of WPI inflation was recorded in March 2023, when it was 1.41 per cent.
